Mr. Walter Raymond “Ray” Hohler Jr.

On April 14, 2022, the Foster Town Council formally recognized Mr. Walter Raymond “Ray” Hohler Jr. as the “Oldest Citizen in Foster”. He was awarded the gold-topped cane, also known as the Boston Post Cane, by Town Council member Cheryl Hawes. He is the 40th person to receive the cane since its first presentation in 1909.

Mr. Hohler was born June 18, 1926, in Providence R.I., to Walter & Ann Hohler. Mr. Hohler left school in his senior year to join the Navy where he served on the USS Roosevelt then the USS Cunningham during WWII and then later in the Korean war. After serving honorably, Mr. Hohler returned to Rhode Island and received his GED then went to work as an apprentice pressman for Oxford Press.

Mr. Hohler moved his family to Foster on May 3, 1963, where he resides to this day. His passions include: restoring his 1800s farmhouse, raising sheep with his two children, operating his 1954 Farmall Cub, and of course mowing the lawn.
