How can I get fingerprinted or a criminal record (BCI) check?

The Foster Police Department provides fingerprinting services seven days a week to Foster residents only.

All others must go to their local police department or to the Rhode Island Attorney General’s Office, 150 South Main St, Providence.

Child Care & Foster Parents:

  1. Fingerprinting is provided for Foster residents only.
  2. An appointment is required for fingerprints. Please contact dispatch to set up the appointment.
  3. Child Care: You must provide a letter from your employer requesting the fingerprints.
    Foster Parent: You must provide a letter from the Foster Parent agency requesting the fingerprints.
  4. A Disclaimer form must be filled out. This form can be obtained at the front desk or online at www.townoffoster.com. 
  5. There is no fee for this service.
  6. After you return the letter and Disclaimer form, your fingerprints will be taken. When the results are returned, you will then receive a letter indicating if you have No Disqualifying or Disqualifying Information.

Adoption & School Employees:

  1. Fingerprinting is provided for Foster residents only.
  2. An appointment is required for fingerprints. Please contact dispatch to set up the appointment.
  3. Adoption: You must provide a letter from the Adoption agency requesting the fingerprints.
    School Employees: You must provide a letter from each school requesting the fingerprints.
  4. A Disclaimer form must be filled out. This form can be obtained at the front desk or online at www.townoffoster.com. 
  5. There is a fee for this service. $40.00. This fee must be paid by check or money order made out to the RI Department of Attorney General. Cash will not be accepted.
  6. After you return the Disclaimer form, your fingerprints will be taken.  When the results are returned, you will then receive a letter indicating if you have No Disqualifying or Disqualifying Information.

Applicants who have their own Fingerprint Cards:

  1. Fingerprinting is provided for Foster residents only. You must show valid identification.
  2. An appointment is required for fingerprints. Please contact dispatch to set up the appointment.
  3. There is a $5.00 fee for this service.
