Spencer Property - Witch Hazel harvest in progress

The entrance to the Spencer Property is located at Poles #64-65 on Old Danielson Pike. There is a parking area that will accommodate several cars. The main Ponagansett River Trail starts at the parking area and is yellow blazed. It will take you out to the Ponagansett River. It is mostly easy walking with no steep hills, although there are a couple short areas that are rocky and a couple wet or muddy areas.

There is a red-blazed trail, the Cardinal Trail partway up which heads west to DEM land and up to an access and parking area on East Killingly Road. To the east is a short Gravel Pit Trail.

The Boulder Field Trail is orange-blazed. It connects to both the Ponagansett River Trail and the Pot Luck Trail. The westernmost half of it is a rocky, single track trail. The other, more northern half, is an open, easy double-track like the River Trail. To find this trail from the River Trail, look for the orange blazes several hundred feet past the dam or, alternately, from the other side, you can access it from halfway around the Pot Luck trail.

If you access this trail from the River Trail, you will go up a steep hill. As the trail levels out at the top, it goes both right and left. On the right (or north) there is a very large boulder. If you return on the western side going south to the Pot Luck Trail there is another boulder field and the Troll Cave.
