• Baseball Field at Woody Lowden named for Mike Polouski

Mike Polouski |
"Polouski Field" is the new name of the Baseball Field at the Woody Lowden center. The Town Council approved this recommendation from the Foster Recreation Committee members on September 23, 2010. Quoting from the letter sent to the Council: "Over the many years of service to the Town of Foster, Mr. Michael Polouski has worked diligently in the capacity of Recreation Director to ensure that our community has a wide variety of activities and services...but as many of you know, baseball is one of Mike's favorite areas. His passion for baseball is reflected in our wonderful baseball field at the Woody Lowden Recreation Center. With the assistance of grant money, the field is now irrigated and in terrific condition! It is well groomed and our country's flag waves proudly from the nice white flag pole. In addition, this year he acquired a baseball pitching machine, which has helped our little league baseball team tremendously. There have been more practices at the Woody this year and even more games are planned for both fall ball and next year's season. And with the help from the cub scout troup, parent volunteers, and paint donated from Home Depot, our dugouts and bleachers are also in tip top condition.
"To honor Mike for his years of service to Foster and his passion for our ball players, we recommend that the baseball field at the Woody Lowden Recreational Center be named "Polouski Field."
Congratulations, Mike! |

• 2009 Service Awards
On July 24, 2009, at Old Home Days, the Foster Town Council presented this year's Distinguished Service Awards.
Helen Hardy is a long-time member of the Foster Planning Board and a former member of the Conservation Commission who has devoted much of her time and many years of service to the town. She is a well-known and well-loved teacher at the Paine School who has no doubt had a very positive impact on many local children. Never one to shrink from hard work, Helen was seen this year weilding a rake under the hot sun while taking part in the restoration of the Paine School Playground. And so, for her many years of service and her many contributions to our community we applaud and recognize Helen Hardy with the 2009 Distinguished Service Award.
Aniello "Danny" Calise is a local businessman and owner of Danny's Auction Barn. Every year for many years, Danny has been involved in providing and delivering Thanksgiving baskets to local families. Danny has also put up the "Old Home Days" banner seen across Route 94 for many years at his own expense. And so, for these and the many other things he has done for our community without recognition or acclaim, we applaud and recognize Danny Calise with a 2009 Distinguished Service Award.

• Hand-made Clock Presented to Town
The Council was pleasantly surprised at the September 11, 2008, Council meeting by a special presentation from Tom and Sally Freestone. The Freestones, who recently relocated from Tennessee to Mt. Hygeia Road, presented the Town with a fine, hand-crafted clock made from stoneware pottery. In fact, the “Foster” clock was the last piece of pottery they produced in their old workshop in Tennessee. Our thanks go out to the Freestones for their generous gift. Tom and Sally will soon be opening a workshop in Foster and we look forward to seeing them about town. The clock has been proudly placed on display in the Town Hall for all to see and admire. |
